Easy Christmas Party Decorating Ideas

Hair up-dos are a great option for when you are short on time but need a high impact style for the day. If the thought of doing an up-do at home without expert help feels daunting, then help is at hand.

Salon Science Brand Ambassador and award winning hairdresser Andrew Jose has created three simple, yet stunning styles for chic hair to do yourself at home (without getting your fingers in a twist).

1. HALF-UP TWIST
One of this season's biggest hair trends, the half-up style is a sneaky way of making a lazy hairstyle look cool and effortless.

1. Make sure your hair is dry. You might like to curl the ends to add volume to the ponytail and create more shape around the face. (Remember, after using curling tongues, the curls stay in place for much longer if you allow them to cool in that position. Pin the curls to the head whilst you do the rest and leave curled hair for 15 mins before you continue styling to help it set).

2. Flip hair upside down and add a volumising product, like root powder or dry shampoo, at the root for texture.

3. Backcomb the crown section using a soft bristled brush.

4. Using thumbs and palms, pull the top half of your hair back into a half ponytail from about an inch above the ears, leaving most of your lengths free. Pull hair loosely out at the crown to create more volume.

5. Make a hole right above the hairband using your finger, splitting the hair in two and flip the ponytail through. Tighten the pony and pull out strands at the front to make the style more relaxed.

2. PLAITED BUN

Easy and elegant, the plait bun can be sleek and polished or made to be looser and slightly messed up for daytime.

Brown, Hairstyle, Style, Long hair, Brown hair, Hair coloring, Hair care, Liver, Hair accessory, Blond,

1. Making sure your hair is completely dry. Separate two sections (approx two inches) at each side of your parting at the front (you will come back to these later and make them into braids).

2. Take a large section of hair at the crown and backcomb with a comb or soft brush to create a more voluminous shape - this will also give the style more staying power.

3. Gently brush over the top of the back combed area to smooth over the surface hair but not lose any volume you have already created then, using both hands, smooth into a mid-height ponytail and secure with a hair band.

4. Gently pull and loosen hair at the crown for more lift at the root and a slightly more relaxed effortless style.

5. Backcomb the ponytail to create volume and spray with hairspray for grip. Twist hair around the base of the pony tail to create a messy bun and pin into place.

6. Create two braids with the sections left out at the front of the hair and secure the ends with thin hair bands. Gently loosen the plaits by pulling the plaited sections apart for a softer and wider braid.

7. Pull back each plait back and loosely pin around the bun, which you can make as messy or as neat as you like. A quick mist of hairspray all over will help to keep this style in place.

3. HALF UP-ROLL

This half-up, half-down style is very 1920's and is suitable for short or long hair.

Brown, Hairstyle, Style, Long hair, Hair accessory, Brown hair, Hair coloring, Liver, Blond, Back,

1. Make sure your hair is dry. You might like to curl your hair so that the half that is left down has more volume.

2. Create a parting to one side leaving a four-inch section at the front of the side with the most hair. You will come back to this later.

3. Split the hair in half horizontally from the tops of the ears and gently backcomb the top half to create more lift.

4. Pull the top section back into a half-up style and brush over the surface to smooth the hair.

5. Using two fingers, twist the half ponytail to make a twist and use kirby grips to pin to the head.

6. Return to the section you left at the front and use tongs or straighteners to curl it.
